If you need a phone number, you pay the real cost — provider rate plus a small platform fee. Most customers never need one (TOTP-only setups are the common case).
Rates above include the platform fee. We charge what providers (Bandwidth, Telnyx) charge us, plus a 30-50% margin to cover ops, KMS encryption, real-time SSE delivery, and the audit log. We never inflate carrier rates beyond that.
Inbound only today. Outbound SMS and US 10DLC brand registration are on the roadmap; not yet live.
What it actually costs.
Three real-shaped use cases so you can map your team to a number.
The most common shape. The team shares TOTP for AWS, Stripe, GitHub, registrar, etc. No SMS numbers. Comes out under $4/seat/month.
Agency manages 2FA codes plus a couple of shared SMS numbers for client logins that require them.
Enterprise contracts are bespoke; final pricing depends on retention, residency, and bring-your-own-key choices.
A la carte if you need them.
Beyond Starter's 25-token cap. If you're regularly above this, the Team plan ($29/mo, unlimited tokens) becomes cheaper around 35 tokens.
Beyond plan caps on Team and Business. Enterprise is unlimited included.
Lengthen your audit-log retention beyond plan defaults. Capped at 7 years (matches Enterprise default).
Common questions, honest answers.
Why don't plans include SMS numbers?
Because honest pricing means we can't give them away. A US number with proper 10DLC compliance plus inbound traffic costs us $5+ per month per number. Telnyx EU numbers are similar or higher. Bundling them into a $12 plan would mean subsidizing customers who use SMS heavily at the expense of customers who don't. We charge the real price; you pay only for what you use.
How much does an SMS number actually cost?
It depends on country. US local numbers are $5/month all-in. Canada $3. UK $4. Germany $8. France $10. Inbound SMS messages are passed through at provider rates ($0.005 to $0.04 per message depending on country). Full breakdown below.
What happens after my trial ends?
A card is required to continue. If you don't add one, your org goes read-only for 14 days, then is archived. You can export your data at any time.
Can I switch plans?
Up anytime, instant. Down at the next billing cycle. No phone calls, no retention dance.
Are SMS numbers transferable?
Yes. Port-out is supported on Business and Enterprise. Number portability requires a few days due to carrier processes.
Do you offer non-profit or educational discounts?
Yes — 50% off the Team plan for verified non-profits and educational institutions. Email us with verification.
Do you offer accelerator / YC discounts?
Yes — 50% off the Team plan for the first 12 months for accelerator-backed companies.
What's the refund policy?
Pro-rated refund within 14 days, no questions asked.
Do you have a free tier?
No. We have a 14-day free trial. We charge so we can keep paying telecom bills and the security people who do the hard work.
Is the API available on every plan?
Yes, but it's rate-limited on Starter and Team. Scoped keys, IP allow-listing, and webhooks are Business and above.
Can I self-host?
Not at launch. On the roadmap for Enterprise customers with a regulatory need.
Where is the data?
EU by default — operational data in Helsinki (Hetzner), backups and KMS in Ireland (AWS eu-west-1). US deployment available on request for Enterprise (single region per organisation, no cross-region replication).
How do you handle billing failures?
Three retry attempts, then a 7-day grace period, then read-only mode. We'll always email you before anything changes.
